Die Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt in Braunschweig hat es erdacht und hergestellt. Das alte Ur-Kilo liegt in Paris und wurde 1889 hergestellt, doch die Platin-Iridium Legierung hat an Masse verloren. Jetzt hat die Braunschweiger Bundesanstalt eine neue 1-kg-Kugel aus Silizium entwickelt mit 9,4 cm Durchmesser. Diese wird 2019 den Pariser Zylinder-Typ abl\u00f6sen \u2013 wenn sie offiziell anerkannt wird. Die internationale Abstimmung erfolgt im November 2018. Vier Kugeln sind hergestellt, acht sollen folgen.
